PPF Calculator

A Public Provident Fund (PPF) account is a long-term, government-backed savings scheme with a standard 15-year tenure (extendable in blocks of 5 years) and annually compounded interest. This calculator estimates the maturity value from your yearly investment, the interest rate, and the tenure.

How to Use This Tool

  1. Enter the amount you plan to invest each year (up to the scheme's annual limit).
  2. Enter the current interest rate — check the latest government-notified rate, since it's revised periodically.
  3. Choose a tenure — 15 years is standard, with 20, 25 or 30 shown for extended accounts.
  4. The maturity value, total invested and total interest update automatically.

Formula

Each year: Balance = (Balance + Yearly Investment) × (1 + Annual Rate) Applied annually over the chosen tenure, assuming the full yearly investment is made at the start of each year.

Example: investing 150,000 per year for 15 years at 7.1% gives a total investment of 2,250,000 and an estimated maturity value of roughly 4,068,200.

Why Use ToolVigo's PPF Calculator

  • Models annual compounding the way PPF interest is credited.
  • Supports the standard 15-year tenure and common extension periods.
  • Clearly separates your own contributions from interest earned.

Limitations

Assumes the full yearly contribution is made in a lump sum at the start of each year and that the interest rate stays constant for the whole tenure — actual PPF interest is credited based on monthly balances and the rate is revised periodically, so real results will differ.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the current PPF interest rate?

PPF interest rates are set by the government and revised periodically (typically quarterly) — enter the current rate, which you can confirm from an official source, since this calculator does not fetch it automatically.

Is PPF interest taxable?

In India, PPF has historically carried tax-exempt status on contributions, interest and maturity value under the scheme's rules at time of writing, but tax rules can change — confirm current treatment with a tax advisor.

Can I withdraw from PPF before maturity?

Partial withdrawals are typically allowed after a set number of years under scheme rules, with specific conditions and limits — this calculator estimates maturity value assuming no withdrawals.
